StandardAgonist at hepatic glucagon receptors, raising cyclic AMP to drive glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis and so blood glucose. Also used in beta-blocker and calcium-channel-blocker overdose, where its inotropic effect bypasses adrenergic receptor blockade. A peptide, cleared by proteolysis rather than cytochrome P450.
No curated interaction pairs are recorded for Glucagon. This is not a statement that none exist — check a full interaction reference before combining.
Alcohol depletes hepatic glycogen, so glucagon may be ineffective in alcohol-related hypoglycaemia
