Mechanism of action

Activates cardiac A1 receptors, transiently slowing atrioventricular nodal conduction. Terminates paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and unmasks atrial activity in undiagnosed narrow-complex tachycardia. Removed from plasma within seconds by cellular uptake and adenosine deaminase, not by cytochrome P450.
